I am taking a camping hunting trip and am looking at buying a Fiskars for chopping and splitting wood for the campfire. Yes, I know that there are other brands but i have a Fiskars splitting maul and am happy with that for use at home but want a smaller model for my hunting camping trip. I have read up on the difference between the different Fiskars axe and hatchet models here: https://www.toolazine.com/fiskars-x5-x7-x10-x11-x15-x17-x25-x27-iso-core-8-lb-maul-hatchet-axe-maul-review/ but I am still not sure if I should get a smaller model like the x7 or x10 or x11 or go for a bit bigger and more weight and go for an x13 or x15 or x17 with the extra length. The difference is only a few pounds all those listed are under 6 pounds. The splitting maul that I use at home is over 10 pounds.
Any opinions, please don’t suggest a different brand and I am 100% against anything that has a wood or metal handle. I have had both metal and wood handled axes in the past and do not like splinters and broken handles that comes with a wood handle not the impact through my hand/arm of a metal handle.
What is your opinion on the length& weight that is best for hunting/camping?
