  • Not much room for extra mag

I have only showcased the Gunvault SpeedVault SV500 as that’s what we have on hand.  So far the design is our favourite design that is available as of the release of this review.  Although we do mention the SVB500 we did not have it on hand and we just go by what others have said when it comes to that model. The SV500 is the non-biometric variant of  the SpeedVault and the SVB500 is the biometric version.

Both versions can easily be mounted under a desk, on a nightstand that is stable and strongly built, or into a closet for simple quick access.  The SpeedVault isn’t quite as small as a few of its own biometric cousins, although the simple fact that it mounts into a hard surface which makes it far more attractive for people seeking to anchor their firearms rather than having a smaller gun safe which is more portable and can be transported from location to location.  The capacity to anchor the SpeedVault down makes it perfect for maintaining your firearm protection and reduces the threat of a person walking away with your firearm or a child gaining access.

It’s also ideal for mounting to a desk with the included bracket.  This is ideal for all those whom work regularly from your office and feel that the necessity to have a sidearm right alongside your leg.  Another thing to note is that the GunVault SV500 or SVB500 safe will not limit you on size just like some of the smaller types of safes.  It can fit larger handguns like a 1911.  You can also squeeze in an extra mag if need be.

Another selling point is that the fall down drawer, it falls almost instantly after your code or biometric method has been entered into the device.  This attribute may save time fumbling through a different method of securing your firearm or other methods that require keys.  Additionally both models have a backup key in the event that the battery dies some other options on the market do not have this option.

While a lot of consumers are going more towards biometric technologies, I personally still prefer the keypad method as I find the biometric on most products are just not accurate enough at this point in time.  You will also save money by buying the keypad version.

The GunVault SV500 and SVB500 are both cheaper options than many others on the market and provide a great value for the price.  We do recommend the keypad version, from the reviews the biometric version it is highly rated as well.
